Medical Uses: Nextstellis is the first and only FDA-approved combination (drospirenone, a progestin, and estetrol, an estrogen) oral birth control pill used to prevent pregnancy. It is the first oral contraceptive to contain E4. The E4 in this medicine is produced from a plant source and has selective actions in tissues. It supports the health of the uterus, vagina, and bones. It has a minimal impact on the liver and breast tissue.

 

Note: Nextstellis may be less effective if females have a body mass index (BMI) of 30 or beyond. It is not known if this medication is safe and effective in females with a body mass index (BMI) of 35 or beyond.

 

Recommended Dosage: The recommended dose is one pill, once daily for 28 successive days: one pink active tablet daily during the initial 24 days followed by one white inactive tablet daily during the four following days. Take tablets by mouth at the same time each day with or without food.

In case of puking or acute diarrhea (within 3 to 4 hours) after taking an active pill, take the new active pill as promptly as possible. Take the new pill within 12 hours of the standard time of pill-taking if possible. If over 2 tablets are missed, follow the suggestion concerning missed dosage, including considering backup non-hormonal contraception.
